I like to think that I am a great shopper. I love a deal. I will always look for a deal before paying full price. I mean, why wouldn’t you? If you have the opportunity to buy what you want, but not pay full price, I’m here for all of that! And you should be too! People who know me know I am the queen of deals. I have discounts and deals to a whole lotta places.
My refrigerator has been empty for quite some time. I went to the grocery store last weekend and bought all of the ingredients for gumbo. But that’s ALL that I bought. And I made the gumbo and it was delish. But again, that’s all I bought. And after a week of gumbo, its time for some thing new.
Funds are a little low right now – rent will be paid in less than a week. So I was faced with a challenge. Grocery shopping on a budget. So I did a little research. I like Safeway. They’re the equivalent of Vons from back home. (I’m a SoCal girl through and through!) So I picked up the circular and started checking out the prices on things that I wanted to buy for the week. Then I went online because they have some special coupons and prices you can add to your Safeway (VonsClub) card. Ahh, that’s where I started to really make it happen!
16 ounces of spinach was on sale for $1.25, peaches and nectarines were $0.99 a pound, and there was a 20% off coupon if you spent more than $5 in produce. The calculator in my head started to go off! Chobani was already on sale for 4 for $5. Then the online discount reduced them to $0.90 each. Aww shoot! Ground turkey was on sale for 3 pounds for $5. Listen…
I won’t bore you with all of the deals and prices but lets just say I made out with full groceries for $22.97. And none of that buying 47 cans of unnecessary chili or cat food either. I bought exactly what I wanted and needed. And on top of that, the grocery stores have the partnerships with the gas stations so for every x amount of dollars spent, you get a discount per gallon. I got an EXTRA $0.20 off per gallon of gas on top of what I earned for my shopping trip.
I left the grocery store smiling at my receipt. It felt great.
Never thought I’d enjoy spending money on something other than jewelry, purses, and cars. But it happened. 🙂
